The late Tom Cone, our dear friend and supporter, was the mastermind and visionary behind Acoustic Panel, which in 2001 inspired 47 enlightened individuals and groups to contribute to the creation and premiere of a new composition for the Standing Wave Ensemble.
Tom envisioned Acoustic Panel as a way of embracing the natural synergy
between artists and audiences. Many believe that it was the first initiative of its kind
since audiences supported the composition of new work by G. F. Handel.
In 2001, Standing Wave premiered Bradshaw Pack’s palladia, the first Acoustic Panel commission, at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre. The 2002 Acoustic Panel commission resulted in the premiere of French composer Thierry Pecou’s Quelqu’un parle à Tango.
In Tom’s honour and to fulfill his wishes, Standing Wave is pleased to announce a new Acoustic Panel commission.
Acoustic Panel will be credited for every performance, recording and publication of this new commission.
We welcome anyone and everyone to get involved by making a contribution to new commissioned music. Donations from a collective of friends or colleagues are welcome.
