- and our new CD!
Have you been meaning to join the Acoustic Panel? Now is the time to donate!
February 21st is the deadline.
Late Vancouver playwright Tom Cone was the mastermind and visionary behind Acoustic Panel, which in 2001 inspired 47 enlightened individuals and groups to contribute to the creation and premiere of a new composition for the Standing Wave Ensemble. Tom envisioned Acoustic Panel as a way of embracing the natural synergy between artists and audiences. Past recipients of the Acoustic Panel Commission have been Bradshaw Pack and Thierry Pecou.
In April of last year Standing Wave announced a new Acoustic Panel commission in Tom’s honour and to fulfill his wishes.
We are extremely pleased to tell you that Edward Top is the recipient of the Acoustic Panel commission. His new work for Standing Wave will be premiered at our April 2013 concert.
Edward has been a force to be reckoned with on Vancouver’s New Music Scene since his arrival here a few years ago. As Composer in Residence for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Edward has already premiered three works which have all garnered praise from audiences, critics, and musicians. His first collaboration with Vancouver writer and Arts Maven Tom Cone resulted in the celebrated one act a capella opera Love thy Neighbour. Most recently, his piece Totem was premiered by the VSO and will be part of the VSO’s program on their impending tour of the Western United States.
Members of Standing Wave are thrilled to be able to commission Edward through Acoustic Panel. And Acoustic Panel is YOU, our amazing supporters, so please take a moment to click on the link below to contribute to this exciting commission and become part of the creation of new music!
CONCERT ANNOUNCEMENT:
On April 21, 2013, at the Cultch, Standing Wave will present Vansterdam, a concert celebrating the ties between Vancouver and the Netherlands.
The program will feature brand new works from two young BC composers who have been greatly influenced by the music and culture of the Netherlands. Dutch – born Vancouver composer Edward Top‘s new piece, commissioned by the ensemble through Acoustic Panel, will touch on themes of violence and lost innocence, while Ladner native and graduate of the Netherlands’ Koninklijk Conservatorium, Justin Christensen‘s new work draws its inspiration from the films of French New Wave director and enfant terrible Jean-Luc Godard. Internationally celebrated Dutch composer Robin de Raaff will be represented by his gorgeous and popular work Un Visage D’Emprunt, as will Vancouver’s own enfant terrible John Korsrud, who will contribute a new arrangement of his own piece Time Waits, a tribute to his former teacher Louis Andriessen.

OUR NEW RECORDING:
Liquid States, our new CD, recorded and mastered by the Grammy and Juno award-winning team of Denise Ball and Don Harder, will be out very soon. Featuring the music of Jeffrey Ryan, Rodney Sharman, Jocelyn Morlock, and Linda Bouchard, we are thrilled to get this thing out there!
Come to our April concert and you will be among the first to be able to pick one up! Until then-
All the best,
Standing Wave
